JakeKaminski | Tuning Best Order to Make Adjustments
So you know how to tune your recurve bow, but are you adjusting the different settings and using the tuning process in the correct order? I find many people do not and that causes a lot of issues and ultimately does not give you a forgiving setup which results in a bow that will not shoot the highest scores possible.
I go over the order in which I tune my Recurve bow referencing my Recurve Tuning Series that I have covered in depth. Ultimately I want to help you set up your recurve bow to be the most forgiving, most accurate and highest scoring bow possible. This is a review of my order of operations video now that I have covered (for the most part) my tuning process in the tuning series which is found below.

OnlineArcheryAcademy | The EASIEST Archery Nocking Point
Tying and setting your nocking point properly is really important for your vertical grouping and consistency, and learning how to make your own is a little bit of a right of passage for new archers, so don’t be afraid to give it a go and make your own! I know that learning it as a beginner is a bit daunting to say the least, but this method is super easy and really quick to do.
This is the most simple, quick method which is easy to learn, but for the BEST, MOST SECURE AND CLEANEST nocking points, check out my other video.
OnlineArcheryAcademy | The BEST Archery Nocking Point
Tying and setting your nocking point properly is HUGELY important to your vertical grouping and bare-shaft tuning of your bow. In this video I show you how to make what some people term a ‘Korean’ style nocking point because of the longer profile of each section. These are the most secure, clean and durable nocking points you can make. They’re a bit more advanced, and take longer to learn than other methods, but the time will pay for itself because they should never come loose when done correctly.
OnlineArcheryAcademy | How To Get Perfect Nock Fit
Adjusting your nock fit will massively change your arrow tuning. It is important to make sure the arrow fits on the bowstring properly for safety. It’s dangerous to shoot with a fit that is too loose or too tight on the string.
If the nock is too loose, the arrow could fall off the string during the shot. If the nock is too tight, over time it could cause the nock to crack. This could lead to the nock exploding when you release. Both examples are dangerous. Because of this, it’s super important to make sure your nock size is correct for the string and serving material that you have.
TripleTroubleArchery | HOW TO SET a NOCKING POINT
A nocking point in archery can determine how the arrow flies and if it clears the bow when it’s shot. By changing the nocking point, you can tune the bow in such a way that the arrow flies better and you get a more consistent result. Nocking points are typically made out of either a piece of nylon string, or a brass little ring.
In this video, Steve explains how he makes his nocking point and how he decides where to put it!
Button / Plunger
JakeKaminski | How to setup your Plunger
I get asked about the plunger setup all the time! Finally I tell you how to adjust your plunger to help get your recurve bow tuned as best as possible. When it comes to recurve archery, the most confusing and often asked questions seems to revolve around the plunger.
I explain my experience with tuning my plunger for you to use to adjust your plunger with the same thought process.

Many questions about the Plunger in relation to recurve archery go unanswered, I do my best to answer those questions. I also show you exactly how to set up a back up plunger identical to your primary plunger on your bow.
This can help with building a backup set of equipment, or when comparing and contrasting different plungers in your equipment box.
OnlineArcheryAcademy | The REAL important tuning areas
Too many archers spend massive amounts of time on tuning, when in reality it doesn’t matter. Getting a basic tune is important, but beyond that what should you use your time for when it comes to tuning?
I explain why micro-tuning isn’t that important and why you should spend your time on other things!
OnlineArcheryAcademy | Please don’t tune your bow like this!
Button stiffness tuning is really only for fine-tuning. First adjust the bow weight, arrow point weight and arrow length to match the arrow spine to the bow and your technique.
Tiller
OnlineArcheryAcademy | USING THE LIMB BOLTS
Do not modify the limb bolts while the bow is strung or you might strip the threads of the riser.
The limb bolts are primarily designed to modify the tiller and adjust the bows poundage to match the arrow spine.
[Eric Yspeert – Hmm. He wants to set the limbs to align with the riser. I do not share this viewpoint, only in the extreme positions]
Arrows

Arrow clearance
OnlineArcheryAcademy | Arrow clearance tests – recurve archery tuning
Many archers struggle with identifying bad arrow clearance, and diagnosing whether their tuning problems are due to this or not. Here I explain some key ways you can check if you’ve got bad arrow clearance.
OnlineArcheryAcademy | 6 Ways To Fix Arrow Clearance Issues
Learn about possible causes of arrow clearance issues. When you release the arrow, it should bend around the riser and pass without any part of the arrow contacting any part of the bow. This is called ‘clearance’. If the arrow contacts the bow this is an issue and it can cause very erratic grouping and strange tuning results.
In a previous video I looked at ways of checking if you suffer from bad arrow clearance. In this video I show you how to fix bad clearance.
